can anyone help me figure this out. i just got this avr atmega328 and i can not up load at all

avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x30
avrdude: stk500_disable(): protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x51

that is all i get and im powering my board with a 9v wallwart and i have a prolific 2030 usb to serial adapter

I've seen similar before under linux, it related to the usb-serial adaptor I was using

is it just an atmega328 alone or is it part of an arduino board? Are you using windows or linux?

Have you tried this on serial port or computer? that might help narrow down the issue to either pc, serial adaptor or chip

its on an avr board from ebay and i have tried it with the usb to serial adapter and a pc with a serial port and still get no response and i am on winXP SP3
