IDE Slow

Hi,

My Arduino IDE is being VERY slow on my Windows 7 desktop. My computer is plenty fast, so that is not the issue. It takes awhile to start up like 20 - 30 secs, and then it takes 40+ secs to compile even the simple blink example sketch. Also, clicking on any menu causes the IDE to lock for about 40 secs. How do I fix this?

Check if you have any bluetooth stuff on, that's been the culprit in the past.

Hi,

I disabled the Bluetooth radio on my computer, and that fixed the issues with the UI freezing, and now the IDE starts within a few seconds. The compile times are still really slow though. What could be causing this?

java update maybe? how slow is really slow?

I counted 45 seconds to compile the blink example. I tried the same example on my netbook running Slackware Linux, and it only took about 6 seconds, and my netbook is half the speed of my desktop.

Yeah, that is slow. Blink takes 5 seconds on my older Win Vista SP2 Sony Vaio laptop.
You gotta have something else going on.

What do you think could be causing this?

I don't know. Some background processing you have going on.

Yeah, mine is slow too. Man, annoying. I'll just make do with it. Even loading menu items takes about 10 seconds (like click on "Tools").

You can find the solution from here. Works for me.
