Mac Book Keyboard Characters

I have "Getting Started with Arduino", and having connected the Duemilanove Board, I have Flashing LEDs, however in trying to copy the Example programme from page 32, I find that I cannot locate the Character [double barred cross] which is required before the word "define", [2nd line of the example]!
Can anybody point out a way around this problem? Please.

This one #? The one above the 3 on every keyboard I've ever seen? Well, except when I was in Paris. They had some strange keyboards, there. So, maybe it isn't there on your keyboard.
