Arduino.cc reboot: feedback and comments

We are going to publish a complete redesign of the arduino.cc web services, and we would like to obtain from you some feedback, and alerts about things broken in the process (you know, the Murphy's Law...).
Post in this thread your comments!

I really like the new design of the website. Congratulations!

Only one fault: the text box to view only 2 lines and it's very hard to write correctly ...

Thank you!

Please bring back the 'Replies' link (or tell me where it is hidden) so that I can quickly get to threads that I have previously replied to.

I second that. The replies link really needs to exist. If it just got relocated it would be awesome if you could tell us where.

Also, while being able to re-size the message box is cool, the default should be larger.

I like the overall color scheme and design. The blue bar at the top takes up a lot of real estate, and I don't quite know what to think about the floating bar, but so long as I get replies back I'll be a happy camper.

Less readability where the font sizes have been shrinked.
Two default lines for editing are not enough.
Increased loading time is annoying.
"Bigger" and "Smaller" options in thread view seem to have no function.

Now better?

I like the new design, it will be superb when bugs are fixed :wink:

No change (using Chrome), still 2 lines by default. Thanks

Still just two default lines (Chrome Version 29.0.1547.76 m).

It's different, but I need to be convinced that it's better.

The "unread posts" link is mandatory AFAIC. The loss of this will severely limit my participation (don't take that wrong, it's just the way I came to operate).

Way too much real estate wasted in the header.

I hate saying "Me Too" but anyway "Me Too" There is so much traffic on here that the "Unread Posts" link at the top (and bottom if possible) of the page is essential. The browser "Back" button just doesn't cut the mustard.

There is something seriously incompatible with Linux redhat and firefox.
I have a huge header and need to scroll all the way down to have the text appear (I really need to drag the scrollbar or it won't work) and then scroll up.

I quite like the fresh new look but how can I view my posts? This is the method I use on all forums including the old arduino forum to check for replies, I see someone has posted a link above to show your posts but please add a button because I use this forum from many different machines so a bookmark won't really help?

Really like the new site layout - congrats & well done!

Of course, there's things not to like as well:

  1. The un-collapsed header is too large. I like it and understand the design, just a little less height please (maybe 25% less).
  2. "Unread" and "Unread replies" links in the forum
  3. 2-line height for replies is very, bad...

On Firefox 17.0.9 / Win XP, I see nothing except a blue banner unless I type a character in the search box at the upper right.

(This is true of both arduino.cc and forum.arduino.cc.)

  • actually, I'll second Jantje : the header under Firefox is just huge. I can scroll down to see the text, but entering a space in the search box shrinks the header.

With Firefox on Mint the header collapses as soon as I start scrolling down which is good. Same behavior on Win 8. Is your release current?

Version 17.0.8 which is the latest version according to https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/.

After "Replies" my most-used link is "Unread":
http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?action=unread

Although I usually go straight from there to:
http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?action=unread;start=0;sort=replies

Version 17.0.8 which is the latest version according to Get Firefox for desktop — Mozilla (US).

That's odd, I have 24.0 on both Linux and Windoze.

Thanks to both! Is there a way to know these links, or were they just captured previously from the page?

The issue with older Firefox versions is caused by a typo in common.css:

#pageheader .search input:-moz-placeholder { /* Firefox 18- */
   font-size: 822222em;
   padding-top: 3px;
}

The surrounding blocks have .822222em there. Should be easy to fix.

I've also sent this report to webmaster@.
