GSM shield v2 (Quectel M10), can't use' äöå' characters

I've been banging my head without a success to get my new GSM shield send and receive sms messages with extended characters such as ä, ö, and å. If I send message string like 'ÄäÖöÅå Hello World!' it looks like whats on the attachment on this post on my phone. And when I send the same string from my phone to the shield, it prints out like '{ (10.2 KB)

Thanks, inspired by that post I did similar thing and just did String.replace for those accented characters. Now it works from the shield to my phone, just need to get same for the other way around.
