Is arduino going to go on for ever?

Hello i am a 13 year old tean, and i am thinking of magering in lectronics, is arduino going to be arround for a long time?

Probably, but even if it isn't the experience you pick up will transfer. Once you learn what to do it doesn't take long to learn how to do it on different platforms.

Rob

Thank you:)

is arduino going to be arround for a long time?

From the perspective of a 13 year old, yes. From the perspective of a oldie like me no, something once again will come along and make it irrelevant.

Lefty

Simple answer: Arduino is the best choice of any that you have right now. Go for it.

Where are you located? What / who is there around you that might be helping you?

i am thinking of magering in lectronics,

The first thing they do is to teach you to spell it.

"For ever" is a very long time

"For ever" is a very long time

About 1 or 2 years when you're 13

Rob

That is what I told my 'starter' wife.

Actually, I believe spelling is a pattern-recognition talent ,much like musical ability, and should be marked the same way in school.

I have always gotten great spelling grades with absolutely no effort. Words just LOOK right or wrong.

I worked for several years with a great designer and software architect at IBM, who had a bachelors in EE and a Masters in Computer Science. He couldn't spell to save his a**, not some 5-letter words! We wrote two specialized computer languages over 8 years at IBM, which were widely used in Semiconductor test by about 100 people. THEY had to spell the keywords right, but my friend only had to get them correct once, in the compiler-building code.

Right now when I misspell somethin it shows up in red, with suggestions. FM.

Spelling: Don' Worree Aboot It!!!

Yes I am actually dyslexic myself, and words with fewer letters are actually harder to spell.
However I suspect the OP was being slovenly, most of the time you can get the first letter right.

Did you hear about the agnostic dyslexic? He doesn't believe there's a Dog.

While not diagnosed I'm sure I'm numerically dyslexic if there is such a thing. I constantly mix numbers, eg I'll read 1234 and then write down 1243 or some such.

Similarly to what Terry was saying I find that it's often better for me to remember an "image" of the number rather that the individual characters.

Rob

The fact that the last two posters have Solder and Hexadecimal in their sigs shows that they originated Pre-Arduino.

I was taught to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder to find one... :stuck_out_tongue:

On the premise, at least for this post, that "Humans are only off-topic when they're dead":

I liked this, which I read in the New York Times the other day: http://terryking.us/p/A-Sharper-Mind.pdf

My Dad, who was a Broadcast Engineer and Ham all his life, can still tell you the difference between an 828 and an 813. He's 99. Hope that's hereditary!!

Oh, to the Original Poster: Welcome, and you will get some friendly help here.

I got an incredible amount of help from older-than-me people when I started learning tekkie stuff, about 1952.

That's a tradition that I think "IS going to go on for ever!"

they originated Pre-Arduino.

Just a tad

Interesting article, having not finished school I thought I was in trouble for a while but it seems I may do better in my dotage.

Rob

Yes it is called dyscalculia

My wife teaches children that suffer that as well children with dyslexia.

Sadly I didn't, that is why I am keen to do it now. The internet is great for that.

That reminds me. I can't pay it back to those great guys that helped me. Thinking.. Dick Landers, A.C.Gilbert, going way back.. Dr. Walter Gard, Adam Osborne.. many others. I can't pay it back.. they're all dead. So I have to try to Pay It Forward.

If anybody knows a kid who needs an Arduino but doesn't have the money, or a kid who you would help if you had a Starter Kit to hand out, I have about 5 to go now, and more over time. Email terry@terryking.us Don't be shy.

I'm pretty sure Rob is your elder, dude :.

Hey, I shoulda taken bets on THAT!

I'm 14 years older than The Gray Nomad.

But I ain't as famous: http://www.scribd.com/fullscreen/76599860/EEWeb-Pulse-Issue-26-2011

I'm reading all his stuff about Life On The Road, though. After move back to USA this June and I rebuild the engine in my GMC Yukon and fix the old travel trailer, my wife and I will head out on the American Outback.

I thought you looked a little grayer than me.

We're playing with the idea of coming over to the 'States, buy a camper and hit the other side of the road for a while.

Maybe we can share a Walmart car park sometime

Rob

Real Light Gray ~~ White

Rob, I really do need to read all your OnTheRoad stuff. In a way I have been practicing up on doing ElectronicsAnywhere and SoftwareAnywhere as Mary Alice and I have lived in Africa, China, The Middle East and now Europe the past 8 years. I can't fit all the stuff I haul around the world in a small trailer, though. Here's what it usually looks like (Italy Version): http://terryking.us/p/TK_Shop_Italia-800.jpg

Lotsa questions about Internet access and power and all that...

You'd be real welcome in Vermont, New England .. Almost Canada where I am.

Oh: Hey "mrdove500", come back in.. Where are you located? Do you have anyone around there to help out??

As you can see, SOMETHING is gonna go on forever, and it's Learning new stuff and Making stuff work. You can do it. We're STILL doing it.
