I'm curious if I plug in both USB cable to A-B port and a 12v wall-wart adapter to the barrel jack will it harm the Arduino? Or will the 12v wall-wart adapter know to disable the power source in the USB cable? thanks! 
No it won't harm, the arduino will switch to the wall wart power when both are plugged in
