You should check what the Morse and Crypto people already do on their sites and try to find out what they would like to have. You don't need prizes if the game is fun people will enjoy competing to get recognition of being best.

i was kinda under the impression that this was a game for the arduino forum. that's why i was posting about it here.

though apparently i have to get the internet radio part worked out. not sure why my stream didn't seem to work last night.

when i fire up the station again, this image shows the links that connect to the station.

the link for the M3U file i have tested to work with windows media player, and may work with others. i have no idea what the other link works with.

if your browser is configured to automatically play the M3U links with your chosen application, then merely clicking on it will start the connection. otherwise you may be prompted to either open or save the file. if this is the case, just open it using your chosen media player, or if you like, just download it and open it with your media player. it is not a binary file, just a text file that tells the media player how to connect.

if the station page looks like in the image, my station is running. if the station data, and links are not there, i have the server running, but not the radio station.

212.159. .

~40Kbps. Yes it sounds clear.

What is it about American comics?  Can't tell a joke without f-bombing every other word.

The music is very relaxing but I prefer Planet Rock.

supposedly that was a real taping of a 911 call. i have had that file for quite some time. it is kinda funny, with the exception of the f-bomb.

i chose the music to be listener neutral, and only for the test. some rock music uses amp distortion, and thus is difficult to gauge broadcast quality. i only have about 3 classical music MP3s in my collection, so it was either that, or harder rock ;)

thanks for the report! :D

wow, mixing audio and digital sources through my mixer is interesting. and my broadcast software running on the same computer complicates things. at some point in the future, i may isolate my Icecast server from my PWS, and use a program called Darkice to handle the live audio to my server. that way, whatever comes out of the main outputs of my mixer, are broadcast. then it will be simpler to add sources, like a sound-effects source for instance. say nothing about the arduino that will be playing the morse code, or whatever the game grows into.

in the meantime, i hope on my audio interface (Tascam US-1641) has internal separation between the inputs and outputs. otherwise, i may get some feedback once i get it all wired up.  :o i am by no means an audio engineer. though i do know the difference between a balanced and unbalanced I/O. ;)

i have only to find space to setup all my gear, and then i can finally work on the mechanics of the game.

my website is my website. it serves it's purpose if people visit it or not. there isn't much in the form of music that i can broadcast, so audio games it is. i don't have the bandwidth to handle millions of people world-wide. but the few people here that are interested may be enough to keep it fun.

added a status thing to the bottom of my forums start page for my internet radio, so it is easier to see if my station is on-air, and if so, what's playing.

being without a jobsite at the moment, i currently have too much free time (and far less money  :( ).

i have my station going with some classical and celtic, and other odd songs.
as stated ABOVE for how to connect, if you want. lets load the server and see how many it will take. ;) kind of like breaking in a motor the hard way.  :smiley-twist:

mainly i am just board...

well that was an epic failure. the server received 0 connections during the high load test. geez, it's almost like you folks have jobs and stuff. ;)

ROFLMAO, if that is the kind of audience i am to expect, the station server should handle the load quite well. ;) :D :D :D

so anyway, while my father was busy getting some bills mailed out to customers, i have been playing with my audio interface, and found that my live audio software won't connect to that interface. but it will connect to the old M-Audio M-Track interface (stereo in/out, as opposed to several in, and several out), but i guess that is all i need right now anyway. the live audio software, funny enough, is called BUTT ("Broadcast Using This Tool", also pretty funny, when you apply the name and the meaning together ;) ).
but all i need, really, is one channel in, and one out, as i am broadcasting in mono. but whatever.
so my scheme that i have figured out is HERE (i had to link to my forum due to the size of the image).
it is far simpler than my original plan, but it is also easier to figure out what cable is causing whatever issue. i may go back to my larger audio interface in the future, if i get it to work right, simply because the drivers are higher quality, and doesn't have the hiss, because it is self-powered, vs USB powered.

but anyway, still board, so who knows where my mind will run off to next. ;) :D

Put it on reddit, you'll get many people trying to dos it.

Put it on the Faceache group and offer a free $1 micro.  Should get a few 1000 hits.
