Due , IDE 1.6.3 & linux Mint 17.1 (solved) "requires 1.5.x"

I really ahte to have to ask what is likely a basic question but "I will". I just received a Due today and pretty much expected to plug it in to the same USB port I use for my Mega & UNO but no such luck. I see it attached to dev/ttyACM0 but the board is not one of my possible selections under board manager.

dmesg shows

[ 1645.161619] usb 7-4: new full-speed USB device number 6 using ohci-pci
[ 1645.330513] usb 7-4: New USB device found, idVendor=2341, idProduct=003d

anyone know where to look?

It appears newer versions "1.6.1, 1.6.2 & 1.6.3" will not support the Due in Linux.
