signal: illegal instruction Error compiling for board Arduino/Genuino 101

I have been through the arduino forum and still can't find my answer.

I have 2 Macbooks.

1: An old Black Mackbook running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)

2: A Macbook Pro running Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.3 (15D21)

The problem I see with the old Macbook is
signal: illegal instruction

Error compiling for board Arduino/Genuino 101.

It happens on IDE 1.6.7, 1.6.8 and 1.6.9

I think that the Arduino 101 code has some how been made uncompilable on the older version of the Mac OS X.

I can not upgrade my old Macbook to a newer version of the OS.

Looking for some help.

thanks

Hi,
does it also happen when compiling for AVR?
The toolchain seems ok (you can find the sources here GitHub - foss-for-synopsys-dwc-arc-processors/toolchain: Repository containing releases of prebuilt GNU toolchains for DesignWare ARC Processors from Synopsys (available from 'releases' link below). The repository itself contains all the scripts required to build the GNU toolchain. Toolchain documentation available at https://foss-for-synopsys-dwc-arc-processors.github.io/toolchain . Processor Information available at), maybe Intel compiled it targeting newer operating system or processors.

I get this as well.

signal: illegal instruction
Error compiling for board Arduino/Genuino 101.

Running a macbook pro with lion OSX 10.7.5.
