4x4 rgb led matrix

I am trying to make use of sparkfun electronics Button Pad 4x4 - Breakout PCB (Button Pad 4x4 - Breakout PCB - COM-08033 - SparkFun Electronics) to make a 4x4 rgb matrix (i eventualy would like to make the switches work). I keep coming across harware trouble. Searching through the forums it seems possible to drive 16 LEDs without any extra chips. I've tried different configurations with transistors but keep coming up empty. Could somebody give me a better idea as to the schematics of driving this board?

thanks, In the rgb matrix there is 12 rows anodes and 4 rows of cathodes so i would need 16 transistors but I only have 14 outputs. Will I have to add an led driver?
