Is the DEV-09815 motor shield from sparkfun compatible with the Arduino Mega 2560? Does the DEV-09815 require any protection from back EMF if I'm powering the Tamiya dual motor gearbox? Thank you.
Yes, it should be. Digital lines 3 and 11 are used for PWM and both those pins are PWM-capable on the Uno and the Mega2560.
Back-EMF protection is provided by 8 diodes on the shield so no additional protection should be needed.
