Arduino board not detected USB insertion

Hi all,
I just received my arduino uno rev3. When I connect it to the notebook with the USB cable, it is not detected, nothing happens!
The power green led switches on and the yellow led blinks on the board, but I can't find anything on notebook device manager that refers to Arduino, so I can't install any driver following the instructions.
What can I do?
Thanks
Andrea

By the way, the OS is Win7 professional and downloaded IDE 1.0

I had a look on the forum, can it be caused by the USB cable?
Is it possible that nothing pops up in the system (and nothing appears on device manager) for a cable problem?

Try below

Thanks zoomkat for your suggestion. My problem at the moment is that I can't find any entry on device manager that refers to arduino and where I could try to install the driver.
I'm going to use a new USB cable, I will inform you about the results. I really hope to solve this way!!!

Solved !!!
Incredible, the problem was caused by the USB cable. With the new one all went fine.

Thank you all
