Topic: case inspired by radica im-me toy (Read 793 times) previous topic - next topic

i been reading about this toy, the radica IM-ME, an instant message toy. its really interesting all the hacks they have make on this. i hope i can find one of those toys in my country.

reference image: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51dryyeSdKL._SX300_.jpg

i though, why not to make an arduino case like that toy:
      An 8x24 LCD display, with back-light. The LCD has an SPI interface.
      A full qwerty keyboard.
      A piezoelectric sounder.
      SOC with a highly hackable 900MHz transceiver and the main processor.(here having an arduino as its brain. and some FR chip.)
      3 x AA battery holder

more details about the toy here: http://daveshacks.blogspot.pe/2010/01/im-me-hacking.html

it could be used as a educational platform about RealTime OS devel.
like those old cellphones or scientific calculators.

now i will add a bunch of links to try inspire you all

so with a case we could have something similar but with all the arduino documentation available and the a big community to support on the development

what you think?

what im trying to say is i would like to make a case/shild. i think i can make the electronic part but i cant make the plastic parts, so if other users like the idea we all could found it or something.

so far i been thinking on making a shield combining this parts:

   or just use AA batteries
   * nokia screen   http://www.geeetech.com/wiki/images/thumb/b/b0/Nokia_5110_wiring.jpg/600px-Nokia_5110_wiring.jpg
   * a keyboard    https://4.bp.blogspot.com/_xcCOmNtmhYE/Si3UjfGj_OI/AAAAAAAAAU0/ex5w8CAAWCE/s400/ButtonShield+Frontside+Twist.JPG
   * https://4.bp.blogspot.com/_xcCOmNtmhYE/Si3UjfGj_OI/AAAAAAAAAU0/ex5w8CAAWCE/s400/ButtonShield+Frontside+Twist.JPG (but i like the plastic qwerty better)

only left to choose a FR chip.
