Title: How to connect HDD motors to Arduino boards?
Post by: jeffmorris on Dec 02, 2012, 10:45 pm
How do I connect hard disk drive motors to Arduino boards? I searched the Internet for instructions but I don't want to murder the Arduino boards. Some websites say the HDD motors are stepper motors and other websites say that HDD motors are brushless DC motors. I have a few motor controllers for brushed DC motors.

No the motor that spins the disc are never stepping motors. The motor that moves the arm might just be but it is very rare.

Yes they are.

Absolutely no use to you here.

A brushless motor controller.  :smiley-roll:

The HDD motor has four wires and brushless DC motor has three wires. What about the circuit board mounted on the HDD? Can I connect the circuit board to the Arduino board?
