It seems to me the Arduino would make an ideal board for home automation. It should be possible to couple it to a power line modem chip, something like the ST7537. Then assuming we can do a multinode network, maybe borrow an rs485 protocol, run the XAP protocol over the top. This would be just awesome! X10 on steroids
