Microchip announces the first development platform based on open source 32-bit microcontroller compatible with the Arduino hardware and software ™. ChipKIT ™ platform, which has been designed and manufactured by Digilent, a Microchip Authorized Design Partner, is the first and only solution to 32 bit for Arduino that allows amateur and teachers a simple and inexpensive to integrate electronics into their projects but have no knowledge of electrical engineering.

Cards and software chipKIT provide a higher level of performance and functionality than any other solution available in the market Arduino. With a starting price of just $ 26.95 per unit, teachers and fans can quadruple the performance of any other solution available for Arduino projects and running in minutes.

The platform consists of two cards PIC32-based development and open source software fully compatible with the programming language and the Arduino development environment. ChipKIT hardware is compatible connection cards (shields) and the Arduino existing applications and can be developed using the Arduino IDE and resources, code examples, libraries, references and training classes. This simple solution offers low-cost management and project development support by fans and teachers from disciplines as diverse as mechanical engineering, computer science or even art.

ChipKIT cards based PIC32 whose performance of 80 MHz, up to 512 KB Flash and 128 KB of RAM. Incorporate connectivity peripherals including Ethernet, CAN and USB (Full-Speed ??Host, Device and OTG), and various peripherals such as timers, an A / D of 1 MSPS and 16 channels, two comparators and multiple interfaces I2C ™, SPI and UART. The PIC32 microcontroller integrates chipKIT Microchip, which is the 32-bit microcontroller with the highest performance in its class thanks to the MIPS32 ® M4K ® core from MIPS Technologies, Inc.

In software design has ensured the highest level of compatibility with connection cards, applications and training materials for existing Arduino. The Arduino programming environment has been modified and expanded so that it supports the PIC32 based chipKIT cards, as well as traditional Arduino boards. Have also made changes to the standard libraries to provide support Arduino boards and cards chipKIT traditional Arduino. All this work has been beneficial to turn to the open source Arduino community. With the exception of a small number of cards that work at 5V connection, the vast majority of hardware and software for existing Arduino are fully compatible with chipKIT platform without any modifications.

The development board chipKIT Uno32 ™ (reference TDGL002) is priced at $ 26.95, is Arduino clone of one and incorporates 128 KB of Flash program memory and 16 KB of RAM and two I2C peripherals, two SPI and two UART. The development board chipKIT Max32 ™ (reference TDGL003) is priced at $ 49.50, is Arduino clone of Mega and incorporates 512 KB of Flash program memory and 128 KB of RAM, communication via USB, CAN and Ethernet plus five I2C peripheral, four and six SPI UART.

The two cards chipKIT and code for open source are already available, while the availability of chipKIT Network and I / O Shields is scheduled for June 2011.

with my chipkit max32 I can only used 1 sensor i2c

do you know a solution to this PB ?

Its interesting that their Mega-formfactor board appears to have 16 analog inputs (like the Arduino Mga, and unlike the Due). At least, that seems to be the case from the photo; details on the site are skimpy.

Also interesting that they have a couple of shields (wifi and ethernet) - maybe Due compatible also?
