for christmas i got a touch shield from adafruit.com, i was trying to use the micro sd card reader on it but i keep gerring an error in my serial monitor "initialization failed" any ideas on how to fix this?

You haven't shown any code so, I am taking a guess. You need to format you sd card before you try to use it. If you have done that already, you need to show your code and give us details on what you want to do.
