Current sensor

Hi all,

I'm looking for a low-cost low-current sensor (p.e. 0 - 1A). Sparkfun have one, but i'm looking for a cheaper possibility.
The most I see are for measure big currents up to 20, 30A.

Anyone an idea?

Well low-cost and low-current does not sit well together as you have found. It is hard to detect low current that is why they are expensive. I think you might have to revise the bottom end of that current specification you have. I am not sure if you can beat the Sparkfun one.

If you're willing to do a bit of soldering you can construct your own low-current sensor out of devices like the Zetex ZXCT1009F and a current-sense resistor.

Or you can just use a low-value current-sense resistor (e.g., 0.1 ohms) in series with your signal and measure the voltage across it using an op-amp or instrumentation amplifier.

@Grumpy_Mike: Yes, i've already invented. But I'll try to search the cheapest one. It's for a project in Macha (Zambia, Africa), so it don't might be expensive.
