I have been searching for a shield that would host a non volatile memory storage and a mysql server in one neat package. Does exist? All my searches turn up WiFi shields to connect to remote mysql. I want it to be local to the Arduino and accessible via serial connection.

My guess is that MySQL would need a high level operating system which means you'd have to use something like a Raspberry Pi or Beaglebone which are both about the same size as an Arduino Mega shield.

or use a file based database with sd cards. I think you just want to store some data without building relations between tables?

MySql does not have the ability to listen to a serial port.
The art of getting good answers lies in asking good questions.

MySQL alone wont get you anywhere...  as PaulS mentions.. it cant listen to the serial port or do much of anything..

its a simple 'storage' system..

How do you plan on 'talking' to your MySQL database/table?

Thinking outloud here..   not sure if a USB host shield and USB stick with a stand alone install of WAMP server will do anything for you..  (still not sure how you would even communicate with any of it... php send data out the serial comm... but not receive (on windows at least)..)
