I purchased some of these DIN-5 plugs from digikey:
The two metal pieces in the picture come together to secure the center plastic piece with 5 pins. One metal piece has a place for strain relief. I try to assemble a plug but the two metal pieces won't stay together tightly enough and the plastic housing is soft so won't hold things together. The end result is useable but not nice enough. I wonder how these plugs should be assembled so they will be a one piece thing instead of the two metal pieces coming apart by a little. Thanks.
I'll get a better picture after lunch. My phone takes horrible pictures at close range.
wow that screw on the side looks really nice and it is cheap. I'll limp on with the current parts I bought and the tape suggestion MarkT made and shop for better plugs.
