Arduino and TSOP1738

Hi,
Im trying to interface the arduino with a TSOP1738 IR Receiver (38khz) .. I tried various libraries online to decode IR signals of any remote but none worked so far for me.. I initially connected the VCC and ground pins the other way round , could that have spoilt my TSOP1738?Is there any way i can check if it still works. Could anybody point me to a hello world code for receiving IR signals from a remote.
Thanks a lot..

I'm afraid so. Reversing the supply voltage will destroy most electronic devices.

The first thing to check is to power it (properly!) with a power supply and measure the current. It should be very small, around 1mA according to the datasheet. If it's more than that the part is broken. If it's absolutely 0.0000 (measured with a DMM) the part is likely broken.

i guess it has broken.. i'll have to get another one..thanks for the reply..
