Hi,

I can not upload to arduino duemilanove. Arduino display:

--------------
avrdude: Yikes!  Invalid device signature.
Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override
       this check.
--------------

I tried:avrdude -F -v -v -v -pm168 -cavrispmkii -P/dev/ttyUSB0  -D -Uflash:w:Blink.hex . But it also blocks:

Got anything connected to pin 0 or 1?

scootabug

Ps. Are you trying to upload a sketch or burn a bootloader?  Make sure you have the correct COM port and device picked.

Hi,

I blocked on the "upload" of arduino tutorial http://www.ladyada.net/learn/arduino/lesson1.html
My arduino duemilanove is new. It has never been used.

I am trying to upload a sketch Blink (Files>Sketchbook>Examples>Digital>Blink)

When I make a upload, here is what happens:
1) The RX and TX LED flashes
2) Then the L LED flashes (LED between GND et 1)
3) Then the RX LED only flashes
4) And finally, the RX del off

I can not make upload:
-------------------------
Binary sketch size: 1176 bytes (of a 14336 byte maximum)

avrdude: Yikes!  Invalid device signature.
Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override
        this check.
-------------------------

* I have nothing connected to arduino board
* On the board, the green led is on.
* The port /dev/ttyUSB0 ist selected (Tools>Serial Port)
* It is unnecessary to do a reset. But I did it anyway

I have Gentoo Linux and I am a novice in electronics. I don't understand.

That tutorial seems to be slightly out of date.  In the step where it says "Select Chip", you should instead "Select Board", choosing the board type.  [glow]Tools > Board > Arduino Diecimilia[/glow].  If you have a Duemilanove but you do not see that choice in the GUI, you can still select the predecessor Diecimilia.

herve-darce

I have already chosen Arduino Diecimilia. We can see in preferences.txt:
------------
board=diecimila
------------

The arduino duemilanove may have a defect?

I resolved my porblem.

The problem is the same as that presented on pages:
http://www.arduino.cc/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1191580753
http://www.nabble.com/-patch--6530--Arduino-improvement-td17521999.html

For Gentoo Linux:
sudo emerge -C avrdude
wget http://www.arduino.cc/files/avrdude-5.4-arduino-src.tgz
cd avrdude-5.4-arduino
sudo ./configure
sudo make
sudo make install
sudo ln -s /usr/local/bin/avrdude /usr/bin/avrdude
sudo ln -s /usr/local/etc/avrdude.conf /etc/avrdude.conf

A note for the team arduino. Can you use the software avrdube standard? Can you mention in the FAQ this problem?

Thank you for all

Herve Darce

I added something to the troubleshooting page about this.

elbriga

For the arduino Duemilanove with the 328 chip one should set the baud rate to 57600 on the avrdude command line with " -b 57600 "
