Seeking Chicago Arduino Group

Looking to find people who might be interested in getting together for a local Chicago Arduino group. I am a beginner tech nerd here and so far just doing simple LED Matrix and Monome type projects and seeing if there are others around the area. My friend is working on speak-jet type things with the Arduino and we'd like to get some face time with other developers together for a NY Resistor type thing here in Chi Town!

Or is there already a group up here that gets together on a regular basis?

Anyone out there interested or can point me in the right direction!?

Thanks!

Paul ;D

I'm interested in the same as well. My interest in Arduino started about a year ago, but I have only recently attempted to work on more complex projects.

I'd like to participate if a group is formed.

Hi,

I would be very interested in getting to know more about arduino. I'm also just getting started and I am interested in led matrix and 3d martrix. I would like to go to a workshop and share info.

Thanks

I would like to propose that we begin one...I live in the Humbodlt Park area, and could host a geek meeting...
contact me if interested, and then I can figure out a date...

I would like to begin an arduino group. I have several friends who i could get to have a decent group. Is any one interested in meeting some time in July ? If you are intertested, contact me.

thanx

If I could get in on a meeting coming up that would be awesome. Although I like private coffee houses, I am partial to the 24 hour starbucks in Chicago. Let me know, a buddy and myself have been toying with the idea of getting into the Arduinos. ;D

I'd love to see a Chicago Arduino group!

Cip, I'm in the Humboldt Park area as well. If you have a place to host, i can help organize or lend a hand wherever possible.

Just found this on makezine.com today and wanted to share with everyone this event that's happening in downtown.

This could be a way to jumpstart the group in Chicago.

Let's keep this thread alive, I finally got a Arduino Diecimila and am hoping to get a mini! ;D

I found this information online and it seems to provide the basic foundation upon which NYC Resistor and other Hacker Spaces were formed. http://hackerspaces.org/wiki/Hacker_Spaces.

If there is a core group of people really serious about getting something going in Chicago, this would be worth reading. There's a hacker space in Vancouver, BC that just got started on 8/20.

FreeGeek Chicago looks like a group from which lessons can be learned and to model an organization after. http://freegeekchicago.org/. And, then there's Dorkbot Chicago but it doesn't look like they've had some good action in a while. http://www.deadtech.net/

Looking forward to having a "Chicago Hacking Authority" in town.

Just saw this announcement - it's another Make Magazine sponsored event in Chicago. Click the link for details:

Has there been any progress on this in the last couple of months? I'm just getting into the Arduino world, and would love to have a group of other tech geeks to bounce ideas off of and see what they have created.

Unfortunately not. It may be a case of not having a critical mass of people who are interested in this so that it is sustainable. Hopefully, more people will be interested and then there will be a group for everyone to participate.

There are probably enough of us to start a meetup. Maybe use the new hacker space group as something to rally around. I'm going to start trying to show up to the meetings every tuesday.

moebius,

You mentioned that there is already a Tuesday night meetup already? Do you have some more details? Where and what time?

Hey everyone, I'm new to all the Arduino stuff but I just ordered a starter kit from adafruit. I would be interested in joining these meetups once I actually recieve my first Arduino and learn the basics  Once I get the hang of everything though it would be nice to have a group to get together with and get some help if I needed it. Could someone please PM me some of the details and the general area its located in? I'm from the northwest suburbs.

I did a quick search on http://hackerspaces.org/ and found the Chicago area hacker space mentioned by Moebius --

I too am new to Arduino and would like to hear more about the Tuesday nights meetup. Are they still going on?
Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Carl

Me again..
How long does it usually take to receive it? I am getting anxious.

I'm a member of Pumping Station: One, and there's a lot going on there, including Arduino fun. Thursday nights are Transistor Thursdays, when we get our Arduino on. The guy who runs it is out of town, but the next one is October 8th, 7pm. 3354 N Elston, come on out!

And if you wanna integrate your Arduino with, say, an item of clothing, or something made out of wood or cast from aluminum, or whatever, we can help you with that too. Lots of fun toys.
