Designing a shield to switch high current for a solar energy project

Hello All,

I just finished a website about a project I am working on since 2 years. My project is called "One Fridge off the Grid" and deals with distributed energy production. I am designing a PCB that will have a ATMega2560 and various sensors on it - it will also have the Proto-shield connectors to be compatible with any other shield.

I am looking for feedback and suggestion about the usability for other purposes - maybe small modifications will open up new use cases.

And this link about the "bigger picture" of the project: Solar-Trap - We Are Providing For Casino Games Service

Looking forward for your feedback

Interesting project.
I have done some battery investigation and I ended up buying LIFEPO4 batteries.
They are much more expensive but they have a much higher number of recharges.
These are the batteries that are being used in Electrical cars.
I'll be really interested when H2 joins in
Here in Europe fridge and freezers are often separated. As a freezer is not so often opened it can handle quite long power outages (I think my freezer documentation talks about 48 hours when it stay closed) So that would open some options for using/storing excess energy.
Another thing I would really like to have of the grid is my heating pump. I have central heating burning fixed material (not sure this is the correct wording) which I have to put in there. The pump puts the heat around the house. However during electricity outages there is no heating only because of the pump not working. I think in general lots of people would like their central heating to go off the grid.

Good luck with your project.

Hi Jantje,

what is the make & model of that heating pump?
this sounds interesting, where do you live?

It is just a standard heating pump you can find on any central heating installation.
something like this http://www.verwarming-shop-online.be/Webwinkel-Product-2185497/Wilo-Smart-25-4-180-mm-(Verwarming).html
These are the typical 3 phase motors made 2 phase by a condensator.
I would not mind replacing the motor by a dc one if that meant I could run off grid.
Best regards
