Arduino Uno R2 unable to install on Windows 7 64-bit - tried everything I can

Problem:

  • "Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device"
  • detected as Other devices instead of Ports

Tried:

  • follow the instruction states in the official installation for windows - same results
  • found a youtube video on it, and besides pointing it to "drivers" folder, click "Have Disk" and point it specifically to Arduino Uno.inf file
  • read a forum that says changing the description of "Communication Port" in the .inf file to "Arduino Uno" but to no avail - same results
  • uninstall the device driver and reinstall Arduino Uno but same problem
  • run chkdsk to ensure that there's no registry problems (someone wrote it in the forum)
  • start from step 1 fresh again with everything uninstall - no solution

Would be great if someone can help with this, on how to debug this.

The board's green light is on and the orange light is blinking quite well.

And the board can be installed on my another computer which runs on Windows XP.

Thank you so much to anyone who can enlighten me on this!!!!

Hi,
I am a complete newbie also and have experienced the same problem - I have the Arduino Uno R3 but tried the same things and watched the same Youtube video etc.

Any help would be most appreciated.
