That's an interesting article although the link to the nervous website didn't work for me.
I don't really think they (I want to say Rosencrantz and Guildenstern) are competing in any way to the Arduino. Its beautiful stuff, have a look: http://www.n-e-r-v-o-u-s.com/
The "well step aside" sentence is not a declaration of war, it's just cheap magazine rhetoric.
Diehard Arduino users know that Processing is the framework that is used for building a sketch into an ATmega168 AVR project.
