arduino mega power trouble

I fried the VIN line of my arduino mega. The USB power works but not the power plug or VIN line. the problem is the first little black(or orange) SMD's that say 22 16v. what are these and where can I get one (not 5000)

I don't see anything labelled 22 16v on my Mega. Can you point them out on an image of the board?

My guess is it's the regulators. Any clue on how it got fried?

The description indicates a 22uF capacitor just before the 5V regulator. It is uncommon to use such a low voltage resistance (16 V), 25V should be more appropriate, and this can be the reason the little thing died. But 12V max is generally specified for the Arduino..

The Mega schematic shows 100uF capacitors around the regulator. If these are 22uF 16V capacitors my guess is it's a different kind of board, or perhaps a third-party work-alike.

Its only got 2 terminals and its the second thing over from the power plug. There are two of the right next to each other. there orange in the picture but black on mine.

OK....so it's a third-party board that put on 22uF capacitors. How do you know they're bad? Do they have obvious burn marks?

If you'd like to replace them, you can use something like this:

thanks ill try the digi-key ones

The latest Mega has 47uf at 25v, round can surface mount. I've PM'd you with an offer to send you some that will work. 100uf 25v or 50v should do.

Regulator IC4 and IC5 on the Mega have a max 20V input so unless you exceeded that you're ok. If the board you have has some lesser part as they did with the capacitors they may be fried.
