SD card shield (Adafruit) battery power problems

First post, hello everyone.

I have arduino uno with adafruit card logger, being used with a maxbotix range finder and gps module. It works and logs fine when attached by USB, however when powered by by 9v battery the arduino power LED lights up but nowt else happens.

It previously worked on battery but alas no longer, not sure what changed, any advice would be appreciated.

any advice would be appreciated.

Any? OK. Here goes.

Put the 9V battery back in the smoke detector where you stole it from (or better yet, put a new one there), and get a real battery. 4 AAs will last far longer than the wimpy 9V battery, will provide more current, and will be cheaper.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yup, that was necessary -__-.

Tried a 9v from a smoke detector, and everything lit up swimmingly. I've put it back now and tested the smoke detector and will go down the AA route in future.

....but 5 or 6 aa's will give you a lot longer- lived supply... 4 will drop below the
5v regulator's safe input threshhold long before they are totally exhausted.

From exhausting experience.
