Maybe it's time to rethink the purport of the GSM shield...
We are going to need a 3G GSM shield as a result. Is anyone working on a 3G shield? The only thing I know of is Particle.io and the still non-existent Electron SMS-enabled Arduino-like device. I'm starting to suspect it's going to end up as vaporware.
What I want to do is monitor the heating system where I work as it gets fickle with the boiler's pilot light flaming out every few days. Then, put the fickle as fsck heating system on Facebook. To do this, I need a GSM shield or that Particle.io Electron device to update the Facebook page.
