hello im really new to microcontrollers i went through the tutorials and have some soldering experiance. i found some arduinos on ebay for .99 cents but that dosnt seem realistic with a shipping cost of 17$ so instead of risking it i thought i would build my own. the only electronics place by me is radio shack and i cant find the right parts for what i need there. any suggestions? i dislike shopping online and if they are at radio shack any chance could you please show me on the site diffrent links to all the stuff i need.

also there are some cheap clones you can buy...its all up to you.
but fi you do make your own and you do not already own an arduino then uploading a sketch will require other parts, as well as bootloading the chip etc... which can all rack up the price..

If you have a Fry's Electronics near you, they carry Arduinos now (though not, AFAIK, any Atmel parts)...
Building an Arduino from scratch is going to be tough. Since Radio Shack doesn't sell the main component (ATmega328) or Serial-to-USB converters (FT232RL or ATmega8U2) you are going to be buying parts online anyway.
If you were willing to buy from eBay, why not purchase from a the official store or one of the known distributors?

There are chips with the bootloader installed available. I bet there are other sources.
If there's a Microcenter in the neighborhood, they carry some Arduino stuff too.
Unless you are actually pretty good at soldering, and have lots of time, I would highly encourage you to go for a prebuilt unit, to start.
Also, my experience with Radio Shack parts is that it does add up quite fast - you likely would be spending much more than what you would pay for a kit, though so far my TIP120's come from there...
My first unit came from Amazon, and then I found quite a few suppliers that I am exploring now.
