How to have an output for the TX and L leds on the aduino ??

I'm making a mario song playing on a speaker and lights dancing to it, so I was wondering how I could get the same output that's on the L and TX led so I could use that to turn on and off my leds (btw the RX and L are the data transfer led they blink when data is being transfered) I have a arduino uno r3

Im totally new to this but I don't think that tx light is hooked up to your headers. It looks like that tx led runs off that smaller atmel chip (maybe the usb controller) I didnt look it up. Anyway if you look at the tx light and follow the circuit to the right (the opposite side of the text "TX") you will se there is a small hole I put a led on that and grounded to the ground header on the arduino and it started blinking with it. Now like I said im real new at this just got it the other day but I think you should be able to squeeze a small wire in that hole and then run it to a digital header. If that header is on or "High" you should be able to make another header with a lead hooked up to it go on or "high". Im not sure if this helped you at all maybe maybe you will figure out a better way im just trying to give you some ideas but like I said Im totally new so this may not work at all and if it does im sure it isnt the best way to go about it.

ok thanx i give it a shot and do some testing kk

i fi were you, i would not try to use the TX/RX leds to make some other leds blinking. I don't know if it can break something, but it does not look good imo.

And the L led is just a led connected to pin 13, so if you do digitalWrite(13, HIGH); you'll see the L led light up. It's just a standard led to test things without having to hook up other leds.
So just use L (pin13) as an external led you would hook up to any digital pin.

You probably don't want to use those leds as they are outputs on the atmega16u2 that is the usb controller
your best bet is to add more leds(and series resistors =>220 ohm) to the digital pins and make those blink to your tune
btw how are you syncing the leds and music? Maybe an ic like the msgeq7 would be good for you, im usuing one to light up leds to any song depending on the frequency channels

Oh thats really interesting so I was just wondering how I could have the leds and the song work together using it (it would be nice if u have any sources btw I checked google)
The code im using for the song is the RTTL sample from the tone library
and I added this :

thats the whole code

What, exactly, do you want the leds to do?

My advice would be first to test the code with the external LED;s and then think of rx/tx led;s atleast make sure whole of that code is working as it is supposed to.

the code is for the song and i was wondering how I could have the led work with the code ????
so as the song is playing the leds are also blinking to the song or i can make a code for it blinking

Just do some digitalWrite(13,...)s in an appropriate place in your code.

And you can't use the Rx/Tx LEDs unless you want to reprogram the USB interface processor.

Rob

So where in the code should I place my code eg the led blinking example or the lights turning on with the beat

If you wrote all that code you should be able to figure this out. Just identify an loop or whatever that's playing the noise and toggle a LED there.

Hint, it will probably be around here

tone1.play(notes[(scale - 4) * 12 + note]);
delay(duration);
tone1.stop();
