Hello,
I have just got the TSOP2236 ir receiver. With a remote contol and the irremote library it works just fine. At the moment I am trying to make a tachometer, so I bought a 950nm ir led as a transmitter. When the receiver is controlled with an remote, the value drops from 1023 to 0. With an ir led it doesn't do anything. Does anyone have a solution?!?

Fine. Why did you buy a TSOP2236?
That is designed to receive data modulated on an IR carrier at 36KHz. If you just have an IR emitter is should show nothing.
You need to modulate the IR with a 36KHz signal and then pulse it on and off to transfer the data.
This is totally the wrong receiver to use for your application.
Thanks for your reply, I get it. But should I use a photoresistor instead?

No a photo resistor will not respond fast enough, you need a photo transistor.
Okay, thanks a lot!! Tomorrow I will immediately buy one. Will this work?? http://www.me.umn.edu/courses/me2011/arduino/technotes/irbeam/irbeam.html
Yes, that's the correct type of device and typical method of application.
