What you can do is make a bank of 9 or 10 MAX7219 8x8 LED matrix controllers. Each can contol 64 LEDs. You connect SCK
and Slave Select to all, MOSI to the first one and daisy data-out to data-in from 1 to 2, 2 to 3, etc.
