Very frequently when a sketch fails to load, I try to change the port, but only the "/dev/cu.Bluetooth-Incoming-Port" is listed. This port always results in a failure to load. Why are the other usb ports not listed? When they are available I have no problem loading a sketch. I am using a MacPro …

I have been noticing alot of issues with drivers for version 10.11. All I can suggest is to reinstall drivers specific for your board, which you haven't stated.
