Hi!!
I am interested in the arduino stuff but I am a complete noob in electronics :P... however i had done some visual basic programming..
So can you please guide me whether i can just get started with a starter kit or not ? Or some basic knowledge in electronics is prerequisite...
Secondly which starter kit should i go for ...I will buy it in UK ,so a site to UK retailer selling an arduino starter kit would be appreciated.

i would say first start off with a simple electronics setup with e.g led timers, buzzers, line follower robots that don't need programing (buy them as kits so that you have experience with circuit board components.
after you are familiar with that start off with basic arduino stuff with sensors e.g ultrasonic sensors, leds resistors ad prototype boards.
