Serial via optocoupler?

Hi all

I'm looking to get two systems on isolated power setups talking over serial. Doesn't need to be high baud or anything. Would an optocoupler setup be the way to go for this, and if so, are there any particular models or characteristics I should look at?

Sounds like just about any opto would work for this.

By "serial" do you mean 5v or RS-232?

Don't need RS232 or anything lke that. I'm actually just hoping to use NewSoftSerial over a couple of digital pins.

This is basically what MIDI does, sending serial data between to devices using optocouplers to avoid ground loops.
