A couple of years ago I started this project, and I finally dusted it off and got around to finishing it. It started out as a full-colour monome clone, but I realized that part of the reason I didn't ever finish it was because I didn't really have any use for a monome. So, I rewrote the firmware to play Conway's Game of Life, so I can use it as an interactive art piece. Pictures and video are available on my blog:
I've created a project site with build details and a complete firmware download. I hope to add details to it (and clean up the code) as I have time, but if I waited until it was all perfect it would never get posted!
