I've been using the TLC5940 for a while now and while working with it today, I wondered if it could be used for other things besides LED's.
Could it be used as some sort of PWM expander?

It's a 16 channel PWM controller/driver that is definitely geared towards LEDs but that wouldn't stop it from being used from other PWM applications with the correct implementation. But it sort of begs the question of why use a PWM controller geared towards LEDs for (say) motor control or power supplies when there are PWM circuits specifically geared towards those applications already available? Or what application are you thinking of?
I was just thinking like using it to supply PWM signals to other ICs.

It really only makes sense if the IC you are going to feed is some sort of amplification state, e.g. to drive lamps, LEDs, motors, some big capacitor in a switching power supply, etc. And then, again, there is probably a purpose built PWM for those applications anyway. A logic IC looking for digital input is just going to be confused.
Okay, I've just been wondering. Just a thought.
