my 2¢

for a forum whose subject matter is so heavy based on code, the Insert Code function is pretty weak. a copy to clipboard button, a lift on character limits, or addition of file attachments would be VERY convenient! bandwidth is cheap! arduino files are small!

some sort of ranking system or users comments in the Playground would be nice! The playground looks like a very official establishment which leads one to believe that the code i contained within should work like the example sketches included with the ide. unfortunately, a lot of doesn't or needs a lot of tweaking and contains little to no comments. this can be very frustrating for a new user especially if the project contains additional or extensive hardware setups. user comments or a [ch10029][ch10029][ch10029][ch10025][ch10025] system could potentially save a ton of wasted hours and frustration.

Not so sure about a rating system. I have (and still do use) a number of forums who either have a rating system or have had one and most people are under the conclusion that it is a bad idea.

You give me 5 star rating or I no talk to you anymore! :wink:

Fine with me ;D

Couldn't find stars so you can have circles instead :stuck_out_tongue:

I agree that bandwidth and space is cheap, I am paying 5 bucks a month, and only getting a TB of bandwidth and 500gb of space

course when it comes to the forums as long as they are not flaming in ruin no official seems to care much, look at the spam situation

exactly! "is this code legit? or am i going to screwed out of the next 3 hours of my life?" :-/

The trouble is, the code probably was legit when someone put it in the playground, but then three versions of the IDE later there's some incompatibility and it doesn't work anymore.

Andrew

Indeed, there we have a problem.
I have so many ideas for problems like this and no way to implement them (not that I'd know how for most of them).

Maybe code rot would be helped (or at least the potential for it flagged up) by having some standard #defines or #pragmas in sketches. Say something like

#define CPU atmega328
#define IDE 0.19

then the Arduino code pre-processor could squawk if the values didn't match with the currently selected board/CPU and IDE version.

Something for the Arduino 1.0 suggestions thread?

Something for the Arduino 1.0 suggestions thread?

Go on then :wink:

I doubt it'll help. I don't think it'll get put in now, maybe in 1.0.1 :stuck_out_tongue:

at 30k a sketch, thats only 36,650,387 downloads!

ahhh... i see!

#define CPU atmega328

#define IDE 0.19

then the Arduino code pre-processor could squawk if the values didn't match with the currently selected board/CPU and IDE version.

this seems like a brilliantly elegant solution! a fix of this sort would have a much further reach than just the playground as code posted outside of arduino.cc would also need to comply. 2 additional lines of code would be a small price to pay for instant, easily identifiable compatibility verification and would add to the overall quality of the platform!

again, just my 2¢ fwiw.

hmm... i thought this was the forum suggestion sub-forum? is there a specific thread? i didn't search, but i skimmed the first few pages of suggestions and didn't see it.

speaking of the suggestion sub-forum... i think changing the name from "forum" to "Site Support" or "Site Complaints & Suggestions", etc. would keep the number of "how do i do ______" threads from appearing in here! my 2¢ fwiw.

Yes it is but I might have done a new thread for it.

I was fussing about them not too long ago but we seem to have that figured out

their current deal is 6 bucks a month (but its one of those you pay up front for 2 years) and they offer a couple more things
