I have this exact problem. I am using windows 8. I also noticed I am unable to select the COM port. It is just greyed out. Did you find a solution to this problem?
Figured it out. I didn't have the drivers installed. Procedure can be found here https://communities.intel.com/docs/DOC-22796 on pages 7&8. After the drivers are installed check to see that the firmware is up to date by going to the Help tab and then Firmware Update.
