External Power Options for Arduino Uno

I've just finished a data logging project that consists of:

  • Arduino Uno R3
  • DHT11 Temp and Humidity sensor
  • Date and time module
  • Sharp IR sensor
  • Light sensor
  • SD Shield
  • 20x4 LCD Screen

All seems to be fine using my 9v dc adapter, but when I try hooking up to a 9v pp3 the whole system pretty much dies. I've even put a switch on the LED backlight to turn it off when not needed, but doesn't make much of a difference at the moment as the whole thing doesn't seem to start as mentioned before.

I need this part of my project to have a power span of about 4 hours and was wondering if I have any options.

"9v pp3" What is that? Some kind of battery? Try using 6 AAs, or 6 Cs, in series instead.

Thanks, ok I'll have to see if I can purchase an AA and C x6 battery holder to try
