What is the main use of the MAX232? If a FTDI chip us used with a USB connector, will I need to use the MAX232?
The MAX232 make a 0v=LOW 5V=HIGH TTL serial signal compatible with an +12V=LOW -12V=HIGH RS232 serial port. Generally you would use the FTDI chip if your PC has a USB port and the MAX232 chip if your PC has a 9-pin (or 25-pin) D connector serial port.
Can anyone tell me if a MAX232 can make a 0v=LOW 5V=HIGH TTL serial signal compatible with an +12V=LOW 0V=HIGH RS232 serial port?
I know I can do it with an LM393 and some resistors but, it seems that the MAX232 might be a more simple arrangement if it could be made to work.
Thanks,
Mark
compatible with an +12V=LOW 0V=HIGH RS232 serial port?
Well that is not an RS232 serial port. What do you have?
If you want the signals at the voltage level then just a single transistors.
It is a motorcycle obd2 port basically. Thanks for input Grumpy Mike.
