Topic: (Noobie Question) Bluetooth HC-06 and Android Apps (Read 207 times) previous topic - next topic

Hi All,

I want to talk to my Bluetooth HC-06 from my android phone.  I have downloaded and installed this simple app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pragma.offshore.bluetoothterminal&hl=en).

The phone/app connects to the HC-06 OK and the HC-06 LED stops flashing.  Using the app, I send simple AT commands, ie "AT".  I should receive the response "OK" but I get nothing.

How do I get the HC-06 to reply?

You are working from the wrong end.

You need to understand that bluetooth devices have two modes of operation - AT mode, and communication mode.

They can't do both at once.

Comms mode is is data Tx/Rx and involves both the phone and Arduino, while AT mode involves Arduino only and is done through the serial connection.

The HC-06 is in AT as soon as the power is turned on, and goes into comms mode when the connection is made with the phone, hence you have no chance of configuring bluetooth with the phone.

I think you can get a programme for configuring the HC-06 at the Martyn Currey website. If you are using a Mega, there is a configuration programme for that in the notes here
