displayduino displays loading error with14 led's ?

Hey all,

New user here just purchased a displayduino for an installation.

I've seen that there are many threads covering similar issues with the mega board.

Unless I'm missing something it strikes me as odd/concerning, I can't load sketches with all the leds plugged in, if I unplug 4 or 5 of them from the ground though the sketch loads fine.

Here is the error I receive:

avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0xff
avrdude: stk500_disable(): protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x00

This is a great inconvenience as I'm working really closely with the code--any thoughts?

How long before some spark makes something with a PIC processor, sticks duino in the name and we have to try and pick the bones out of it ?

Realistically, this displayduino bears as much resemblance to Arduino as I do to Angelina Jolie. (I'm a fat middle aged bloke......)

sarcasm appreciated but, is there not a good answer to this question???

An ATMEGA644P at 20Mhz with screw connectors s an alien concept to most here I suspect. The easy answer is disconnect the LEDS before uploading I suppose. Theres the old adage about using resistor wit the LEDs with may have a bearing if you're not using them.
