when i was trying to use the nokia 5110 lcd, i connected its GND to the 3.3v output from my microcontroller and its VCC to the ground. Will this damage the lcd? Now my screen only has a backlight but nothing else. I am not sure about my code. But maybe the lcd damaged already?

Ouch, yes you may have damaged it.. I think, if there is no reverse current protection on it, it's probably toasted :~
But, show the code, and say which arduino you use.

Those devices show nothing when the code isn't right. So your lcd may not have been damaged.
I would find a working piece of code and see if indeed the lcd has gone.
