How to read a microphone?

Hey guys! I would like a microphone (Electret Microphone Element ) to read specific frequencies from a speaker(Kinda like a remote.). What is the best way to tackle this WITHOUT using an arduino? Does anyone have a schematic maybe? Thanks!

First, you need a microphone preamp. Electret condenser mics also need power, which can be supplied by the preamp.

If you buy an electret mic that's designed for a PA system or for recording, it may use a battery, or it might use "phantom power" which is supplied by the mixer/preamp/interface. Dynamic mics (like the famous Shure SM57 or SM58) don't need power, but they still require a preamp.

Here is an example of a preamp circuit that provides electret power.

To filter-out everything except a narrow frequency band, you need a bandpass filter.

Thanks!

You could use the LM567 tone decoder chip in place of the band pass filter, it will be better
