the less work we get, the more depression i get.  :(
and what's worse, it has been long enough now that my body is getting further out of shape. theoretically, i should have more time for my various projects, but i am approaching full "don't give a damn" mode, out of financial frustration. selling little project things won't cover it right now, as my bills are just getting too high, and i have no money to buy material to make stuff with. i have even had to take out a loan from the company, just to pay the important bills. but when we get work, the loan will reduce my take-home pay quite a bit. it is like a plane stuck in a death spiral.

sorry, just had to vent. mods can delete if they want.

Come to Italy, there are elections!
They promise all jobs! Millions of jobs! :D

travis_farmer

that would be great, if i could afford to get to Italy, and could speak italian. ;)

Just how far out in the wilderness are you?

What's the size of the population within a comfortable driving distance?

the problem isn't population density. the problem is that the area paper mill shut down. now everybody that can swing a hammer, thinks they are a carpenter. so the trade has become saturated. when the realization of the lack of quality becomes apparent, then our business will likely pick up more.
usually, some of our regular customers will have jobs to fill in our schedule, but not at present i guess.

Time to move..
i would love to, but i can't afford that either.
what i need is a rich roommate to shack up with... or at least split costs with, once i get the job thing back up and running.

Does the business have a website?? Google AdWords is the best form of advertising (outside word of mouth)

nope. my father insists that "word of mouth" is all he wants for advertising.

Well, good luck with that. People are no longer sociable enough for that to work.

I would use the server you have to make a website for the business. That would be more useful. Domains are 10 bucks...

an ironic side effect of social media?

I have thought of that for quite some time. but there are a few things i will have to think about first... for one, the level of spam/telemarketing calls we would get on the company phone (my father's cell phone). but most importantly, i am not sure if many of our customers would want the inside of their houses plastered all over our picture gallery. and the site wouldn't be much without pictured "samples" of our work.

being out of work, and without funding, really lets me know how much of the stuff i bought is CRAP! PURE WORTHLESS CRAP! much like the whole of my life's decisions. because i have lived a life of pure crap. i can't think of a single thing i have done, that would not have been better if i had never done it...

You dont really get a lot of spam calls. Most of the time what we get is people asking for the electric company.... :D But, spam calls are a part of business. Most of the time, you cant tell a persons house from close ups of their cabinets, doors, ect. If someone sees them and wants them removed, you could remove them for them.

Honestly, though, it you did good work and your customer was happy with you they'll never complain about you posting pictures of their house online.

You could also google "carpentry work" and see lots of examples.

As an aside, that is the downside of capitalism. The ability to buy ultimately worthless crap. #bitcoin

i will have to discuss it with "the boss", as he ultimately writes my paycheck (when i get them ;) ).

but yes, for current work, it is easy to ask if the images can go on the website. but we have tons of other images, and it would be a PITA to track down the home owners for permission. i suppose i could crop them down to make them less obvious as to where they came from. say nothing about a note on the page stating that if they want the images taken down, then they can contact us.

would be a bit of a PITA to make all the changes on the server to change domain names. i will have to go through the server config files and make notes of all the places it pops up.
