Question, do i need encoder for my project?

Hi guys ,

im planning to use DC motor for my project i found out there are 2 type in pololu one with encoder and one without, the question is do i really need encoder or not?

here brief about my project :

i have slope and i want my car to move constant speed, in another word similar to cruise control in real life car.

im plan to use accelerometer also, please your recommendation.

If the load is dynamic and you want to maintain constant velocity then an encoder is highly recommended...

you mean the load during the movement?

if not it is ok without it?

Yes, the load during movement...
If the load/force is constant and the motor power is constant then the speed will be relatively constant given that the heat is negligible...

The accelerometer will provide feedback, whether it will be of a high enough resolution???

But if you are looking for speed control the encoder would serve a similar function to the accelerometer. You don't need both.
