yes, i'm sure i could mod an empty plotter pen in some ways, but if people are trashing pens anyway, i'd rather use them.
the plotter's own pen exchange mechanism needs to work reliably, and the precision is important, especially when plotting the small fonts in the texts. but, yeah, cutting and gluing pens is a probable last resort.
